YOUR FAMILY, YOUR BLOC, YOUR HISTORY!
The bloc life archive aims to become a free open-access online collection of memories and experiences, sharing the personal side of lives under communism and socialism, for better or worse.
Put a Face to the Politics
You can submit your own memories and experiences (or those of relatives or friends) in words, photos, drawings, or videos. People all over the world, and in years to come, will be able to put a face to the politics thanks to your archive contribution!
Inspiration
Need some inspiration? Check out Zsuzsanna Clark’s memories of life in 1970s/80s Hungary, or visit the British Broadcasting Corporation’s People’s War website for a similar idea archiving UK World War Two stories.
How do I Contribute?
If you would like to contribute, it’s easy!
Just email any memories, experiences, photos, drawings, or videos to bloc life!
- Submissions can be as long, or as short, as you feel like.
- bloc life will categorise your post e.g. daily life, family life, love, childhood, teenage years, work life, fun, holidays & travel
- Don’t worry, your submissions can be anonymous if you want.
- We will accept submissions in any language, and try and obtain an English translation for maximum open-access and understanding.
- If you would like, include a bit of background information about the people in the story.
Will you be our first archive contributor…?!
It’s not glorification, it’s not out and out criticism. It’s just the personal side of life under arguably the 20th Century’s most fascinating political regime.
Put a face to the politics – contribute and help this archive of lives under communism grow! Share your memories and experiences of life in the Soviet Union (or any other current Communist or Socialist regime, that is if you can get round the internet blocs)…
Comrade, out.
